The Open Space Institute has protected over 116,000 acres of land in New York State, where our work first began more than forty years ago. Through direct acquisition and conservation easements, we protect critical open space habitats and recreation areas, family farms and historic sites, and partner with local and state government to expand their parklands. Because land developed is gone forever. In New York State our primary focus areas are: the Adirondacks, the Capital Region and Kinderhook corridor, the Catskills, Shawangunks and lower Hudson Valley.
2011 SuccessIn New York State, where OSI directly acquires land, 2011 was an exceptional year. Guided by expert analysis, OSI protected 2,882 acres in New York State this year, including almost 1,527 acres of farmland.
2010 SuccessGuided by a long-term strategic plan, we have become more efficient conservationists. We're proud of the impact that every project OSI made in the communities in which we work. |
